Program Description
Event Details
Pompeii and Herculaneum were once thriving and sophisticated Roman cities until the catastrophic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius destroyed its inhabitants and left behind deep deposits of volcanic ash and debris. The cities were lost for more than 1,500 years until, in 1599, they were accidentally discovered during the building of a canal. Remarkably, the same ash and debris which buried the cities for so many centuries also left them frozen in time. These sites now offer a virtually complete and intact picture of the lives of ancient Romans, including their streets, their homes, their art, their businesses, their baths and more.
Join beloved traveler and presenter Joe Fahey as he tells stories of his own visits to these fascinating places and get a glimpse into the distant past.
